The release of Socket AM2 marks the coming new era of DDR2 SDRAM on AMD platform, the Windsor architecture supporting up to DDR2 800. Intel’s new x965 chipsets also support DDR2 800, which reveals DDR2 800’s position in mainstream specification. When DDR2 achieves a clock frequency of 1000MHz, its data transfer bandwidth reaches 8GB/sec, which is 25% more effective than DDR2 800 (6.4GB/sec). The product can even achieve a bandwidth of 16GB/sec with the support of dual channel architecture. It also perfectly fulfils overclock users’ aspiration for performance by being coupled with HT (Hypretransport) or FSB of a speed faster than 1G/sec.
In order to maintain quality and stability, DDR2 1000 only uses original chips with 64x8 BGA packaging. This enables the product to achieve the ultimate capacity of 1GB, which is adequate for 3D PC game platforms. Additionally, the product is available in 512 MB, offering more flexibility in choice. Another distinctive feature of the product is that it is coated by a red aluminum heat spreader with a print of “Extreme Edition.” The heat spreader reinforces the DRAM modules cooling mechanism and boosts stability.
The packaging of DDR2 1000+ follows the Extreme Edition series policy, consisting of two DRAM modules in pair, in order to follow the trend of dual channel architecture and to enhance ease of users’ selection.
