Details
In RunCore's pursuit of the ultimate solid state drive (SSD) upgrade, a full new line of SSD products have been developed, boosting computer performance 5x to 40x. The RunCore Pro IV SSDs provide speed increases in startup, application launch, multitasking between programs, opening/rendering/saving large files, and shutdown. The RunCore PRO IV SSD also offers silent operation, longer battery life, heat reduction, reliability, and durability making it the perfect solution for all applications.

The revolutionary new SSD design not only boosts your sustained performance but it also focuses on random small file Read and Write speeds, the speeds that create bottle necks in current and past PATA, SATA HDDs, and some SSDs. With Operating system and application consisting of thousands of small files, the RunCore Pro IV SSD can process these files at nearly 10X write and 50X read while creating a more efficient and satisfying user experience.

RunCore Pro IV 1.8" ZIF SSD is designed for laptop, handheld PC. The product adopts advanced flash controller and NAND flash, contains the cache size of up to 64MB with a higher performance in read/write rate than mechanism hard drive. Furthermore, its characteristics of low power consumption and anti-vibration are obvious.

1.8" ZIF SSD as standard PATA driver, which supports all major operating systems such as Windows 9X/Me/NT/XP/CE/Vista/Windows7, MAC, Linux and Unix, Solaris, Vxworks. With no moving parts and seek time, 1.8" ZIF SSD does not need to spin up into action or to seek files in the way that traditional hard disk drives do - enabling it to work much faster. It supports capacity from 32GB to 128GB with maximum transfer rate as high as 85MB/s. Therefore, it is an ideal storage device for commercial users' mobile PC.

So far, so good!

I picked up a used Dell Latitude D430 w core solo processor and 2 GB memory on eBay for $35 US, and wanted to have a decent working travel laptop for around $100 US.

The runcore rev A model was on sale. It is formatted for MacBook use. So I needed to install it in my Dell, run through the Win 7 install process, delete the partitions that existed on the drive, and have it reformat and load.

First time changing out a zip drive, it's a little tricky with the black bar flip up, but once you know how to do it it's a piece of cake. There are a number of you tube videos that show you how to do this.

I have a reasonably zippy and useful computer now. I use it for work on occasions as a device to connect to my work desktop computer, and for basic home use. Files load to the ssd quickly, Win 7 boots very fast now.

Basic install of Win 7 starter, Office XP and a few odds and ends takes about 9gb, leaving me a bit over 20gb for file storage.

If the drive lasts a good long time, it is a very cost effective solution.

Snow Leopard boot time 35 seconds

Bought this for first generation Macbook Air, and have been pleased with the disk.
Snow Leopard boot time is now 35 seconds, and overall usage is excellent.

Screw driver, cloning software and most importantly the USB-case for spare disk are just "Leprechaunical" plus.

I was about to order Kingspec-SSD from Ebay, but quite luckily noticed a link to MemoryC from finnish BBS! Otherwise I would probably be still waiting that disk, and still-working-removed 4200rpm disk would be useless.

As for MemoryC as a company, superfast delivery, thanks. (I don´t have a Facebook account to login to write a superb rewiev about MemoryC =(. )

Put SSD in USB case, CCC will do all of the work for you. ZIF connector odd to put in, there is a bar that you have to flip up. It shouldn't come out when you pull on it. GENTLY EASE OUT THE SCREWS on the bottom case - google a guide. Thin cable the top of the case (microphone cable) that weaves in and out - re-route so it is out of the way - I used tape. Four screws on HD bracket - some under cables. I couldn't figure out how to get the bracket out with the hard drive, but I managed to pull the hard drive out from underneath the bracket.

Move the microphone cable back into place. Re-check the cables to make sure they are plugged in and of course REMEMBER TO PLUG THE BATTERY BACK IN - I almost forgot. If you have trouble getting the case back on - check mic cable and inside of bottom cover. SSD didn't so much speed things up as make it smoother overall. Boot time now just under 40 seconds. I couldn't figure out how to get TRIM enbaled, YMMV.

If I had a second Air, I'd do this in a heartbeat. Very pleased!

Got a new MacBook Air !!

After installing that SSD Drive in my original 2008 MacBook Air, whose 80 Gb drive was defective, I was impressed by the speed gain I got !
Even with the lower space (32 Gb), my almost 4 years old MBA works now like a charm.
The battery life is longer than ever ... (4 to 5 hours with a 2 years battery).
Just a remark, be sure to check some "mac fixing site" to help you replace the drive ...
