DETAILS

SSD (Solid State Disk) is the future storage option for laptop and desktop computers alike. SSD units have no moving parts and as such the consume much less power, hence improving the battery life of any laptop. They are also more reliable than standard HDDs and for added peace of mind they include an ECC Error-Correction feature.

The 16GB Transcend SATA SSD is based on SLC Flash which guarantees significantly faster read and write speeds. We recommend this type of SLC for SSDs intended for installation of operating systems.

Transcend’s 2.5-inch SATA SSD series has a distinct advantage over standard 2.5” HDDs in that they are made of solid-state memory with no moving parts, and therefore not susceptible to mechanical failure resulting from vibration, shock, heat, etc. Its modern SATA interface delivers higher data transfer rates than standard IDE and ensures compatibility with today’s high performance notebook and desktop computers.

Sweet!
As my existing Windows installation had slown to a crawl and was based on a 4 year old hard drive, I decided the time had come to jump into the SSD hard drive market to host my new installation, and I had done some research into MLC vs. SLC based SSD technology, enough to know that I didn't want the potential problems of an MLC based drive, which includes the OCZ Core :(

With options limited to SLC based drives, and needing enough space for Windows, a Virtual Memory Pagefile, Firefox, OpenOffice, favourite game etc, while also desiring speed and robustness, I decided that this drive was the right balance of cost and specification.

I have now reinstalled Windows onto this SSD and everything is a lot faster and snappier, no delays opening SSD hosted files, folders programs etc, and Windows boots up much faster as well. I even made a YouTube vid: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7SkashSNls

Definately condier this drive if you intend to jump into the SSD game!
