Reliability
Renice K3VLAR E series SSDs use Conformal Coating. Conformal Coating acts as a protection against moisture, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes that if uncoated (non-protected) could result in a complete failure of the electronic system. Unlike our competition we go the extra mile to make sure our product does not break down on you ever. With conformal coating you can count on our SSD working for years to come and under extreme environmental conditions.

Compatibility
Using a standard PATA driver, Renice K3VLAR E series drives support all major operating systems such as Windows9X/Me/NT/XP/CE/Vista/Windows7, Mac, Linux and Unix, Solaris, Vxworks. It is an ideal storage device for mobile PCs as well as notebook and desktop applications.

Speed
Renice K3VLAR E series SSD uses the native PATA EastWho EWS720 controller for top of the line speed and reliability. The EastWho controller provides fast read/write speed up to 120MB/90MB/s and 64MB of cache to insure seamless recall of commonly used data in your system.

Macbook Air Upgrade
April 2nd 2014 Verified user
If you are considering this drive for a first gen Macbook Air - stop reading and order it now - the performance difference is amazing, even though I was already using the factory samsung 60GB SDD, the delay is largely imperceptible for most real world tasks and I have enough space for my data, plus I gained a portable USB drive with the very neat enclosure that comes as part of the package - this macbook air will now survive until Apple stop supporting it..........

Good product so far, should include manual.
May 18th 2013 Verified user
Product works well once installed. Apps open quicker than before and the machine seems quieter, takes longer before fan starts running.
There was no instruction manual in the box, so be prepared to use online guides, not a big problem as ifixit has online guides for installation. However there should be a manual for the case provided for external drive use, it took a bit of trial and error to attach the cable the right way to both case and drive. A red light appears on the Renice drive when it is attached correctly and connected.
There is also no guide for installing software and backup, but easy enough by cloning old HD or fresh installation of OS and then reinstalling from time machine backup.
Very happy with the machine now responding quicker. I went from Snow Leopard on old HD to Lion on the new, this may have made the increase in speed less as Lion uses more capacity, but it is still faster than it used to be. All in all highly recommended so far.

Pricy, but a great upgrade for 1.8" users if you use it right!

After installing it, which was a cinch (though the installation instructions provided were a little weak) I re-installed Windows 7 and found it's performance to be considerably better than the original HDD.

I installed Solaris on a second partition. This SSD is hideously sensitive to misaligned data. Solaris constructs partitions on cylinder boundaries - but there are an odd number of blocks per cylinder (65535 if I recall), so I needed to re-partition and pad by a few cylinders to get it onto a 4K boundary.

With 4K alignment performance was considerably better - I can get up to 60MB/s sustained read or write - which is at least 50% better than the original HDD.

I disabled atime (zfs set atime=off) and set zfs_vdev_max_pending to 1 in /etc/system as well.

Considering the limitiations of the whole ZIF IDE (PATA) connector and IDE in general, a great result, and a shot in the arm for a laptop (HP 2510p) that would have been binned otherwise.

Upgrade for Sony Vaio VGN-P31 mini-sized laptop
March 17th 2012 Verified user
The original internal 1.8 inch HDD of this mini-sized laptop has a capacity of 80 Gb and a rotation speed of 4200 rpm. The laptop is sold by Sony with a pre-installed Windows 7 on the disk, complete with a hidden recovery partition.
An external DVD-writer is required to proceed.
First step was to create a system repair disk and a system image with Windows Backup and Restore. There is also a Sony option to make a back-up copy of the recovery partition. I made that as well.

Next I mounted the SSD in the enclosure that is supplied in the Renice package. Next step was to connect the enclosure with the SSD to the laptop by way of the USB cable and make a copy of the original HDD on the SDD with Acronis Migrate Easy (trial version). If you choose the manual option, you can size the copied partitions at will

.....description how to.....

After successful implementing the SSD in my Sony Vaio I had 50% more disk space and the start-up time reduced to 40% of the start-up time that the original HDD required. Happy me.

Nice addon for Dell D420
February 16th 2012 Verified user
Ordered this K3VLAR for Dell Latitude D420. Service was very nice, it shipped via "An Post" on the next day, and came to Moscow in 3 weeks. Bad that no tracking outside Ireland possible.
The SSD is a little thinner than original 60Gb drive, but fitted fine using original rubber sleeve, a bit tight fit but it's possible.
BIOS detected this drive by itself. Now a complete reinstall needed, but so far - no problems.
Nice addition - included USB case, now I nave a spare USB-HDD with my old PATA
drive inside. Who needs a 60Gb USB drive nowadays? But it's free, and better than a drive collecting dust on a shelf.. :)

Works great in MacBook Air (1st gen)

Great replacement for (broken) HDD in first generation Macbook Air (model A1237 - 2008)
Amazing improvement of speed!
Installing myself was not difficult with the help of iFixit (website or iPhone app)
Than formatting the drive and install OS lion with USB pen drive.
All applications works at least twice as fast!

Just the thing for a revision A MacBook Air

Simple installation, works really well. Speeds the system up in both expected and unexpected ways. If you've got an old Air just get one of these. The added 40 gigs don't hurt either. Bonus points for fast delivery (1 business day to Sweden).

It seems a different (better) computer, way responsive, more battery life, less heat. No problem at all.
