Compatible with (but not limited to) the Lenovo IBM ThinkPad X40 and X41.
In RunCore's pursuit of the ultimate solid state drive (SSD) upgrade, a full new line of SSD products have been developed, boosting computer performance 5x to 40x. The RunCore Pro IV SSDs provide speed increases in startup, application launch, multitasking between programs, opening/rendering/saving large files, and shutdown. The RunCore PRO IV SSD also offers silent operation, longer battery life, heat reduction, reliability, and durability making it the perfect solution for all applications.
The revolutionary new SSD design not only boosts your sustained performance but it also focuses on random small file Read and Write speeds, the speeds that create bottle necks in current and past PATA, SATA HDDs, and some SSDs. With Operating system and application consisting of thousands of small files, the RunCore Pro IV SSD can process these files at nearly 10X write and 50X read while creating a more efficient and satisfying user experience.
RunCore Pro IV 1.8" PATA IDE SSD incorporates advanced flash controller and NAND flash memory technology to deliver a state-of-the-art, non-volatile mass storage device. It supports capacity from 16GB to 128GB. 1.8" IDE SSD contains the cache size of up to 64MB with maximum transfer rate as high as 80MB/s. Furthermore, its characteristics of low power consumption and anti-vibration are obvious.
1.8" ZIF SSD as standard PATA driver, which supports all major operating systems such as Windows 9X/Me/NT/XP/CE/Vista/Windows7, MAC, Linux and Unix, Solaris, Vxworks. With no moving parts and seek time, 1.8" ZIF SSD does not need to spin up into action or to seek files in the way that traditional hard disk drives do - enabling it to work much faster. It supports capacity from 16GB to 128GB with maximum transfer rate as high as 85MB/s. Therefore, it is an ideal storage device for commercial users' mobile PC.
The upgrade package includes a High Speed USB 2.0 HDD case and cables to clone your existing drive and turn it into an external USB drive, a 15 Day Free Trial of Acronis Migrate Easy for PC and Carbon Copy Cloner for Mac, a screwdriver, stickers, and any additional specific cables necessary for installation.

new lease of life, BUT..

I've purchased 5 or 6 of these SSDs from MemoryC over the last 2 years, in order to get more life out of our Dell Latitude D430 and D420 laptops, and they certainly speed them up dramatically: well worth the price.
One word of warning though - I've had two of the devices fail on me with no warning, so make sure you have a regular backup procedure in place.
At this failure rate I feel they are nice and fast but somewhat less reliable than an old-style hard disk.
I read somewhere that the 32GB SSD devices are basically 64GB devices that came through the QA process with 20% of their storage space failing QA, so they have those cells disabled and are then sold as lower-capacity devices. Not sure how true that is !?

Well performing, given the limitations

I bought this SSD for my trusty old ThinkPad X40, and it did not disappoint. The laptop's hard drive was slow and very, very loud, while the SSD is much more responsive and of course completely silent. It has given new life to the laptop and I'm now having second thoughts about the need to replace it.
Of course, the performance here is far from leading; both the limited number of chips of the 32GB drive and the PATA interface mean that read and write speeds are much reduced compared to top-of-the-line SSDs. Also keep in mind that there's no TRIM support over PATA. Still, since this particular SSD is based on the Indilinx controller, I hope that it will retain good average performance over the years (knowledge of the controller type was what made me choose this one instead of the cheaper KingSpec).
