I had an old external USB2 IDE HDD for a satellite box. The mechanical drive died after 8 years loyal service. This unit was an ideal replacement. It took less than 2 minutes to install and I now have a silent, fast external drive again. As always, MemoryC to the rescue.

This is the seventh or eighth of these (32-128G) I've put into Thinkpad X40s running both XP and Lubuntu; the only one I've ever had die is one that I killed by incorrectly hooking it up to a USB harness.

Reasonably quick and reliable, spookily silent.
